St. Charles, Winnifred "Winnie" Sanford, 82, of St. Charles, died Friday May 23, 2008 at her home. Winnie was born February 27, 1926 in Spring Valley to Joseph and Ida (Nash) Maricle. At the age of 16 Winnie went to work for a Chatfield area farmer. She later worked as a waitress in Rochester. Winnie and Charles "Chuck" Sanford were married September 3, 1955 in Stewartville. They made their home in Stewartville for a short time before moving to the St. Charles area. Winnie stayed home to raise her family until 1968. She then worked at Home Produce, was a waitress at the Dew Drop Inn before working at Camera Art of Lewiston until retirement. She loved gardening, dancing and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in St. Charles. Survivors include her husband Chuck, a daughter Diane Vincent of St. Charles, four grandchildren; Lesa Finley (Adam Sorenson), Steve Finley, Jessica (Brian) Brouwer and Justin Vincent, four great-grandchildren; Devin, Tayton, Taylynn and Gracyn and a brother Darold (Helen) Maricle of Dodge Center. She was preceded in death by a son Butch Finley, sisters; Irene, Evelyn, Helen, Idell and Ethelyn, a brother Bill and her parents. Funeral Services will be 11AM Tuesday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in St. Charles with the Rev. Michael Hart officiating. Burial will follow in Saratoga Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 PM Monday at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles.
