Warren R. Anderson

July 31, 1914 — April 18, 2012

Warren Ronald Anderson was born in Houston, Minnesota, in 1914 to Roy and Helen Anderson, and died peacefully on April 18, 2012, at home in Creston Village Senior Living in Paso Robles. Raised on his family's farm, Warren was an excellent student and valedictorian of his high school class. He attended Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota, and earned degrees from both the University of Minnesota and Louisiana State University. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army, and in May, 1945, married Dantza Peinovich.Following his discharge from the Army in 1946, Warren accepted an offer to move to San Luis Obispo to join the fledging Department of Electrical Engineering at Cal Poly, where he remained as a Professor until his retirement in 1979. Warren and Dantza raised three children in SLO, were active members of the First Baptist Church, and gave generously of their time to numerous organizations and activities at Cal Poly and in the SLO community. Over the years they travelled extensively throughout the United States, often to visit family and friends scattered around the country. When Dantza passed away in 1999 Warren established the Warren R. and Dantza Anderson Electrical Engineering Scholarship Endowment at Cal Poly, which provides annual scholarship stipends to deserving students. A stalwart supporter of Cal Poly athletic programs and the Performing Arts Center, Warren was a regular in his designated seat at Cal Poly football and basketball games and PAC events until the past couple of years when advancing age limited his attendance.Warren is survived by sons Richard (Barbara) of Creston, CA; and John (Nancy) of Portsmouth, NH; and daughter Deborah Westcot (Robert) of Kennebunk, ME; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.A family graveside service will be held in Houston, Minnesota, in early May, where he will be interred next to Dantza in the Swede Bottom Cemetery. There will also be a memorial service at the San Luis Obispo First Baptist Church at 9 AM on June 10.
