Walter William Haase Jr., 70, died Sunday, April 27, 2008, at Winona Community Memorial Hospital in Winona, MN. Walt was born May 8, 1937, in Winona, MN to Walter Sr. and Hulda (Paulson) Haase. Walt served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Karin Luhrssen in 1964 and were later divorced. Walt married Karen Minske on May 24, 1980 and were later divorced. Walt worked construction and carpentry throughout Minnesota and Iowa. Walt was a member of Winona Eagles Club, Elks Club, American Legion and the NRA. Walt enjoyed hunting and fishing, reading and was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan.Survivors include his two daughters, Kirsten (Dr. Michael) Holznagel of Bremerhaven, Germany and Kaitlin Haase of Winona, MN; grandchildren, Kailey Vernon of Winona, MN and Tom and Finn Holznagel of Bremerhaven, Germany; and three sisters, Margaret Raty of Rosville, CA, Doris (Frank) Chapiewski of Minnesota City, MN and Arleen Stanek of Edina, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Lucas Haase.A celebration of Walt's life will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service Hansen Goodview Chapel. Military Honors will immediately follow the service at the funeral home and will be conducted by the American Legion of Winona. Burial will take place at a later date in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
