Winona, Walter J. Voitik, 85, of Winona died Monday, March 15, 2010 at St. Anne Extended Healthcare in Winona. He was born March 13, 1925 in Joliet, IL, the son of Kathryn (Keers) and Walter J. Voitik. Walter graduated from Joliet Catholic High School and the University of Notre Dame. He served with the Marines in the Pacific Theatre during WWII, having fought in Okinawa and served in the occupation of China. Walter was married to his high school sweetheart Helen Scahill for the past 63 years. He retired from Lockport Savings and Loan in Joliet then moved to Sun City, AZ for 22 years, moving to Winona r three years ago. Walter had served as the president of the Joliet Notre Dame Club in 1955. Survived by his wife Helen and three children; Linda Hoeft (Darwin), Gail Fair (Wess) and Larry Voitik (Vicki), 11 grandchildren, Shawn Graeff (Tonya), Lee Graeff, Casey Hoeft (Leslie), David Edwards (Kim), Carie Kretschmer (John), Katie Fream (Brandon), Christopher Edwards (Sarah), Ryan Voitik (Lindsey), Brendan Voitik (Amy), Colin Voitik (Shannon) and Megan Voitik, 17 great-grandchildren, and a sister Kathryn Jackson and two nephews, Douglas (Shirley) Jackson and Mark (Karen) Jackson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law Harold Jackson. A Funeral Mass will be 2 PM Wednesday at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart with The Reverend Richard Colletti celebrating. Burial will be at a later date in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Friends may call one hour before services at the church.
