FORMERLY FROM ROCHESTER AND CURRENTLY OF WINONAVirginia "Ginny" Ann Larson-Fenstermaker, 70 of Rochester and currently of Winona, died surrounded by family on Saturday, November 14, 2015 after a courageous battle with liver cancer.Ginny was born February 6, 1945 at the Shawnee Reservation in Oklahoma to Bernice (Pederson) and Dean R. Atkinson, Sr. Because her father was in the military, their family moved frequently. In her earlier years, Ginny lived in Hawaii and Florida and several places in between. She graduated from John Marshall High School in Rochester in 1963. On May 9, 1964, she was united in marriage to Ronald Edward Larson. Together, they raised three children, Daniel, Lisa, and Susan, and were later divorced. Ginny was a dedicated homemaker when her children were young, and she also worked as a desk attendant at Mayo Clinic when she was a newlywed, and later helped Ronald on the farm in Wykoff and the grocery store in Preston. Ginny studied Nursing at Rochester Community and Technical College and went from a CNA to LPN to RN. She was the Director of Nurses at the Samaritan Bethany and later guided families through their in-home hospice care with Prairie River Hospice.On April 20, 2013, Ginny married Asa "Sonny" Fenstermaker at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in St. Charles. They enjoyed camping together at Prairie Island and loved spending time with friends. In her spare time, Ginny loved gardening, quilting, cooking end entertaining for the holidays, baking homemade pies. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Sonny Fenstermaker; son, Daniel Larson of Grand Forks, ND and his children Kesha, Colleen, and Samantha Larson; daughter, Lisa (Kevin) Patzner of Eyota and their children Jessica R. (fiancé Eric Krueger) Patzner and Jordan Patzner; daughter, Susan Larson of Rochester; older brother, Dean R. Atkinson, Jr. of San Francisco; great-grandchildren, Anthony Sanborn, Piper Barry, and Lydia Larson; first husband, Ronald Larson; close family friend, Sandra "Sandy" Grell and her family; step-children, Sue (Don) Elias, LeRoy (Sandy) Fenstermaker, and Conrad (Krystal) Fenstermaker; and step-grandkids, Chloe, Jason, and Amy.Ginny was preceded in death by her parents; and step-daughter, Charlotte Johnson.The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice in Rochester for the loving care.Memorial service will be held at 11am, Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Central Lutheran Church in Winona with visitation starting at 9:30am.
