Virgil Skarrud, 81, passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, after a short bout of liver cancer and intestinal disease.
Virgil Stanley Skarrud was born April 11,1932, in Chaseburg, Wis., to Elias and Myrtle(Johnson) Skarrud. He attended school in Chatfield, graduating from Chatfield High School in 1950.
He served in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956 in California, France and Korea. Virgil was a member of the Pioneer Presbyterian Church in Chatfield. Virgil enjoyed visiting his friends in Chatfield, sharing his smile and pleasant company. He liked helping people whenever he could, including giving rides to people who needed them. Virgil enjoyed watching old Western movies, especially those with John Wayne.
Virgil had the rare ability to see only the good in people. Virgil was a kind soul who will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield. Pastor Timothy J. Gerarden from the Pioneer Presbyterian Church in Chatfield will be officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at Chatfield Cemetery.
