WINONAVirgil Marie Albrecht, 87, of Winona died July 17, 2015, at Callista Court Winona after battling COPD for several years. Virgil Marie was born April 11, 1928, in Winona County, the daughter of Fred and Matilda (Burfeind) Luhmann. Virg graduated from Winona High School in 1946. On June 14, 1947, she married the love of her life, Ralph Albrecht at St. Martin's Lutheran Church. When her husband was in the service in the 1950s, Virg joined him in England. They lived there for 2 ½ years before coming back to the states to deliver their first child, Paul Frederick, and settling down in Winona. Eight years later they adopted a beautiful baby girl, Anne Marie, who completed their family.Virg was an active member of St. Matthew's Lutheran church - singing in the choir, serving as school head cook and participating on many committees. Over the years, she also worked at Winona Knitting Mills, J.C.Penney and District 861 Food Service. Virg had a special talent for knitting and sewing for her friends and family, and had many other hobbies including cooking, gardening, boating on the Mississippi, bowling, playing cards and travelling the country with Ralph. She loved visiting her three grandchildren in Ohio and enjoyed her four beloved poodles, Missy, Mindy, Abbey and Trina.Virg is survived by her loving husband, Ralph, son Paul (Pam) Albrecht of Columbus, OH, daughter Anne (Steve) Lias of Humboldt, SD, three grandchildren, Adam, Alison and Andrea Albrecht, and three sisters, Glennis Pahnke, Shirley Thomas and Mary Olsen. She is preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Curtis, Earl (Dick), Charles and Glen Luhmann.Funeral services for Virgil will be held 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Winona with the Reverend Paul Welke officiating. Visitation will take place from 5-7 p.m., Monday, July 20, 2015 at Hoff Celebration of Life Center in Goodview and one hour prior to the service at the church. Virgil will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery.Casket bearers will be her nephews, Steve and Scott Prosser, Brian and Glen Pahnke, Tom Giel, and grandson, Adam Albrecht.Words of remembrance may be left at
