St. Charles, Virgil L. Rossow, 88, of St. Charles died Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Golden Living Center in St. Charles. Virgil was born September 18, 1924 in Masonville, Iowa to Fred and Olive Rossow and graduated from Lamont, IA High School. He entered the Army and served in the Army Air Force during WWII. Following his discharge from the service, Virgil built silos and drove a beverage route. He moved to Sauk Centre, MN and drove transport truck for Standard Oil. In the early 1970's Virgil began working for the Minnesota Department of Transportation on road maintenance, retiring in 1988. Virgil had married Marge Briggman. She later died. He and Carmon Mueller Ellinghuysen were married in 1972. Virgil and Carmon enjoyed fishing northern Minnesota lakes and wintering in Gulf Shores, AL. He was a member of the St. Charles Moose Lodge and American Legion. Survivors include his wife Carmon, a son Scott (Cathy) Rossow of St. Charles, a step-son Marti (Deb) Ellinghuysen of St. Charles and two grandsons Matt and Joey. He was the last of six siblings having been preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters as well as his first wife Marge. Funeral Services will be 11AM Saturday at St. Charles United Church of Christ with Jason Chamberlain officiating. Burial will follow in Saratoga Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8PM Friday at Hoff Funeral Service in St. Charles. They may also call one hour before services at the church. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the St. Charles American Legion and VFW Clubs.
