St. Charles, Virgil Elsworth Johnson, 92, of St. Charles died Friday October 24, 2008 at the Lewiston Villa. Virgil was born August 4, 1916 in Plainview Township of Wabasha County to Harry and Lydia (Schultz) Johnson. He and Bernice Pagel were married April 16, 1942 in St. Charles. Virgil worked for Frisch and Johnson Motors in St. Charles as a mechanic and bus driver. He owned and operated the Mobil Oil franchise fuel truck for a number of years, later working for St. Charles Condensing Plant driving a semi-truck hauling milk. Virgil also worked for Patterson Quarries as a dump truck driver until retiring. He was a 20 year retired member of the St. Charles Volunteer Fire Department. His wife Bernice died in 1989. He later lived at Speltz Home Plus for several years before moving to the Lewiston Villa in 2001. Survivors include two children; Steven (Shirley) Johnson of Lewiston and Sharon (Lewie) Reiman of Utica, two granddaughters, Julia and Jennifer Reiman, four grandsons; Adam, Matthew & David Johnson & John Reiman, two sisters, Carol Montgomery of Lewiston & JoAnn Walters of Elgin, a brother Willard Johnson of Burnsville and good friends, Dave Hanson, Don Zingler and Jim Braun. He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice, a daughter Joyce Lydia a grandson Michael, his parents and a brother Kenneth. Virgil's family would like to thank the staff of Lewiston Villa for their wonderful care of Virgil. Funeral Services will be 11AM Saturday at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles.
