Viona Nisbit, 99, of St. Charles died Friday, October 27, 2017 at Golden Living Center in St. Charles. Viona was born March 15, 1918 in Highland, WI to Henry and Henrietta (Marcum) Holmes. She moved as a young lady to Winona County to work for local farm families. Viona married Willard Nisbit on November 21, 1938 in Decorah, IA. They made their home near Saratoga. Cherishing motherhood, she raised her four children there. Viona loved to bake cakes and pies, cook, garden and sew. After her kids were raised she worked for Lake Center Switch in Lewiston. Willard died in 1985. She later moved in to St Charles. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Utica.
Survivors include her four children, Pauline "Sis" Connaughty of Altura; Willard "Bud" (Denise) Nisbit, Jr. of Rochester; Bonnie (Roger) Morrisey of Zumbro Falls; and Peggy (Ronald) Petersen of Rushford, 14 grandchildren, Sherrill (Steven) Vanguilder; Leslie Nisbit; Duane Nisbit; Suzanne Nisbit; Sandra (Kenneth) Baxter; Matthew (Elizabeth) Morrisey; Sara (Brent) Meincke; Amy (Matthew) Eppen; Guy Hansen; Kim (Patrick) Nesler; Christopher (Jennifer) Hansen; Ronald Petersen, Jr; and Robert (Erica) Petersen, 18 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and two step grandchildren, two sisters, Gladys Severtson and Carole Weinkes, both of Madison, WI, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard, a grandson, Rodney Nisbit and four sisters, Marcella; Dorothy; LaVonne; and Rebecca.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Utica with the Reverend Tim Gerarden officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Utica. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Hoff Funeral Service in St. Charles. They may also call one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.
