Veronica S. Rivers

Rollingstone Veronica S. Rivers, 98, a life-long resident of Rollingstone, died peacefully with her family at her side on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at St. Anne Extended Healthcare in Winona. She was born March 24, 1914 in Rollingstone to Peter and Mary (Ternes) Arnoldy. On September 8, 1936 she married Alois Rivers at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Veronica attended Holy Trinity School and Winona State College. She then taught school in a one room school house and later worked at Holy Trinity School and Rollingstone Elementary for many years. She enjoyed playing in the school yard with the children and knew all of their names, waving as they walked by her house. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, was active in the choir, volunteered at annual parish dinners. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, needlework, crocheting and gardening. She made many quilts for family and for missions. Veronica was a very active person. She loved entertaining, especially dinner after midnight mass. Survivors include her two daughters; Virginia "Ginny" Lehnertz of Rollingstone, Kay Danielson (John) Knecht of Onalaska, a son Alan (Lisa) Rivers of Clive, IA, son-in-law Bill Glowczewski of Winona, 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, a sister Catherine Rivers of Rochester and a brother, Francis Arnoldy of Sioux Falls, SD. Veronica was preceded in death by her husband Alois on August 27, 1997, her daughter Susan Glowczewski, brothers Barney and Raymond Arnoldy and a sister Beatrice. A Funeral Mass will be 11AM Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rollingstone with The Reverends William Kulas and LeRoy Literski celebrating. Burial will follow in the Holy Trinity Cemetery.
