Rochester, Vernon C. Herman, 95, of Rochester, a former Dover area farmer, died Friday evening January 14th at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Vernon was born March 17, 1909 in Quincy Township of Olmsted County to John and Emma (Polzin) Herman. He farmed south of Dover in Elmira Township. He and Madelynn Theilen were married on October 8, 1954 at the Elmira Church. The couple then farmed in Dover Township until retiring in March of 1974. They lived in Eyota from 1974 to 1999. In July of 1999 they moved to Rochester. Vernon was a member of Faith United Methodist Church of Eyota and was a member of Rising Sun Masonic Lodge of St. Charles for more than 50 years. Vernon had served as a supervisor of Dover Township for 21 years. Survivors include his wife Madelynn, a daughter Barbara (Vernon) Pickett of Eyota, two grandsons, Jeffrey Brobst of Chatfield and Scott (Mindy) Brobst of Bismarck, ND, four great-grandchildren, a sister Doris Potter of Eyota and a brother Clifford (Bernice) Herman of Rochester. His parents, one brother and one sister preceded him in death. Funeral Services will be 11 AM Tuesday at Faith United Methodist Church in Eyota with the Rev. Mark Woodward officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Dover. Friends may call from 5-8 PM Monday at Hoff Funeral Home's ? St. Charles Chapel. They may also call one hour before services Tuesday at the church.
