Verna M. Mollenhauer, 86, of St. Charles and formerly Owatonna, died May 26, 2014, at Spring Valley Senior Living Center in Spring Valley, Minnesota.Verna was born April 14, 1928, in Concord, MN, to Vernie E and Hazel M (Miller) Gordon. She graduated from West Concord High School in 1946 and attended beauty school in the twin cities before working as a beautician in Owatonna. Verna and Gordon Mollenhauer were married November 26, 1949, in Owatonna where they made their home. In Owatonna, Verna also worked caring for elderly patients and cooking in Owatonna Cedar View Nursing home. She also cared for Mrs. Doyle at the home of her daughter Lucille Smirch. In 1978 she moved to St. Charles, MN where she worked at Whitewater Manor Nursing Home as a cook until her retirement.Verna was a member of the St. Charles United Methodist Church. She was active in the local United Methodist Women unit and had served terms as unit president as well as chair of the annual fall dinner.Verna crocheted and quilted blankets for her grandchildren and children. She enjoyed spending time with her family camping and celebrating special events like birthdays. Survivors include four children, Teresa (Jon) Arnold of St. Charles; Thomas (Christine) Mollenhauer of Brooklyn Center; Trudi (David) Olson of Owatonna; and Tamra (Donald) Parsons of Spring Valley, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one brother, Orrin Gordon of Birchwood, WI, and one sister, Marlene Dillemuth of Albert Lea. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, a daughter, Tasia (Kenneth) Parsons, three brothers; Dean Willard and Calvin Gordon and her parents, Vernie and Hazel, and infant son.Services to celebrate Verna's life will be at 3PM Wednesday at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in St. Charles with the Reverend Heather E. Klason presiding. Friends may call from 1PM until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial of Verna's cremated body will be in Saratoga Cemetery.
