Dover, Vern Speer, 63, of Dover died Friday September 28, 2007 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester. Vern was born January 2, 1944 in LeRoy to Franklin and Edna (Naumann) Speer and grew up in Fountain. He and Diane Dahl were married June 5, 1963 in Fountain. They moved to Dover in 1977 to own and operate the Country Liv-Inn. They later divorced. Vern worked as a meat cutter at Ye Olde Butcher Shoppe in Rochester, Huckstadt's Meats and later B-Four Meats in Chatfield. He was currently working at Kraut's Butcher Shop in St. Charles. Vern liked to spend time with his friends and family. He enjoyed gambling, cooking, gardening, dancing, fishing and earlier in his life golfing. He belonged to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and St. Charles Moose Lodge. Survivors include a daughter Jackie (Doug) Peterson of Dover, a son Chad Speer of Lake Zumbro, three grandsons, USAF Staff Sargeant Cory (Mary) Peterson, now stationed in Iraq; Brandon Peterson of Dover and Spencer Speer of Lake Zumbro, one great-grandson Dyllyn of Colorado Springs, CO, two brothers, Ed (Tillie) Speer of LeRoy, Stan (Sharon) Speer of Fountain, three sisters, Bev Nagel of Stewartville, Mona (Clayton) Malley of St. Charles and Barbara (Tom) Hockert of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his soul mate Diane Speer, his parents and an infant sister. A Funeral Mass will be 11AM Thursday, October 4th at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with The Reverend James F. Callahan officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Dover. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Wednesday and 10-11 AM Thursday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Hoff Funeral Home of St. Charles is assisting the family with arrangements.
