HOUSTON, MINN. - Vera M. Hanson, 83, of Houston, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Houston. She was born on May 15, 1921, in Yucatan Township of Houston County, Minn. to Thorvald and Katie (Kittelson) Halvorson. Vera lived all of her life in the Houston area. She married Henry Hanson in LaCrescent, Minn. on September 15, 1945. Vera was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston and many church groups there. She was a member of the Forget-me-not Garden Club, School volunteer for first and second grade, Senior Citizen volunteer, Valley View Nursing Home volunteer, Houston Hoedown committee member, Food Shelf volunteer, Nature Center volunteer, and was named the Houston County Senior Citizen of the Year in 2002. Vera worked in LaCrescent, picking apples for the orchard, harvested turkeys on the Vince Poppe farm, cleaned houses, did Janitorial work at the Houston Public Schools, worked at the Houston Security Bank, and retired from Rush Products in Rushford after working there for 17 years. Vera had a very loving and warm personality. Her infectious smile and energy was felt by the entire community and she took particular delight in her grandchildren. Vera is survived by one daughter, Diane (Duane) Lambrecht of New Ulm, Minn.; two sons: Chuck (Rita) Hanson of Winona, Minn. and Tom (Colleen) Hanson of Gahanna, Ohio; and five grandchildren: Aaron, Katie, Molly, Matt and Ellie. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one brother, Kenneth Halvorson. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Rev. Louise Stromberg officiating. Burial will be in the Stone Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Hoff Funeral Homes - Houston Chapel. The family prefers memorials to be directed to any one of Vera's many passions.
