Velma M. Buchanan 101, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 10, 2019, at Seasons Hospice House, in Rochester.
Velma was born September 2, 1917, in Chatfield to Henry and Marie (Kammen) Oldenburg. In December 1939, she married Harold James Buchanan, in Chatfield at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Velma was a member of the Degree of Honor organization, and was in a few card clubs. She enjoyed going to the Casino, and coffee with her friends and family on a daily bases, but most of all just being around family and friends.
She is survived by her son James (Karen) of Oronoco; Granddaughter Tracy (Jody) Finck; Great Granddaughter Brianne (Jake); Great-great Grandson Jaren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; 4 brothers, 3 sisters, 2 daughters, 1 son, 2 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, in Rochester. With visitation one hour before services, at the church. Burial will be at the Chatfield Cemetery.
Velma was one of the most resilient and beautiful human beings in this world. She showed so many how to overcome, with grace and dignity, the unimaginable circumstances that we encounter in life’s journey. She will be greatly missed.
