HOFF FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICE, HOUSTON, MINN. - 507-896-3127 La Crescent, Minn. - Loving mother and wife, Thora Lou (Eiken) Doblar, 84, of La Crescent, Minn. passed away on June 27, 2011, at Gundersen - Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis. Thora Lou was born on September 6, 1926, in Spring Grove, Minn., the youngest child of the late Henry Eiken and Clarinda (Jensen) Eiken. She attended Public Schools in the Spring Grove area, then earned a teaching degree from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Following graduation, Thora Lou taught school for a short time. In 1950, she married Ralph Doblar of Money Creek, Minn. Ralph and Thora Lou, along with their four children, celebrated sixty years of marriage last October. In the late 1960s, Thora opened her own day care center on the family farm in Money Creek. She continued to care for children for almost thirty years. She was the subject of a feature article in the local newspaper because of her extra-ordinary ability to care for and nurture so many fortunate children over the years. Thora Lou was a member of the Money Creek United Methodist Church for over sixty years. Thora Lou is preceded in death by four brothers and one grandson. She is survived by her husband, Ralph Doblar, 89, of LaCrescent, Minn.; four children: Mary Jane Dankowski of Carlsbad, Cal., Sue (Greg) McDonlad of Duluth, Minn., Scott Doblar of Winona, Minn. and Lisa Doblar of Minneapolis, Minn.; sister, Helen Olson; grandchildren: Christopher Dankowski of Oceanside, Cal., Brooke Dankowski of San Diego, Cal., Bryan McDonald of Chattanooga, Tenn., Megan McDonald of Portland, Ore. and Benjamin Doblar of Minneapolis, Minn. There will be a memorial service for Thora Lou at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in Houston with the Rev. Jim Strom officiating. Burial will be in the Money Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Houston Public Library, children's section.
