WINONAThomas Steven Diekrager, 58 of Winona, died Friday, June 20, 2014 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.Tom was born July 21, 1955 in La Crosse to Donald and Nyla (Steve) Diekrager. He was raised on a dairy farm near Nodine and attended Richmond Ridge grade school. In 1973, Tom graduated from Winona Senior High School. Although he was a bad dancer with not much rhythm, Tom impressed Carol Konkel enough to ask her on a date while she was out with friends. The couple was united in marriage on June 24, 1989 at the Rose Garden in Winona. Tom worked for Fibrite after high school and later Peerless Chain. What brought Tom the greatest joy was farming. Their family farm was recognized as a century farm.In his spare time, Tom loved driving through the country, commenting on cornfields and pointing out airplanes. He enjoyed watching the History Channel and learning about WWII. He also liked playing cards, telling jokes that weren't funny, and spending time with his family.Tom is survived by his wife, Carol Diekrager of Winona; children, Tim Modjeski of Winona, Dr. Nicholas (Jen) Modjeski of Winona, and Jana Diekrager of Winona; grandchildren, Elise, Madeline, and Edward Modjeski; siblings, Dennis (Bonnie) Diekrager of La Crosse, Alan (Laurie) Diekrager of Nodine, and Kristy (Karl) Herrmann of Hartford; parents, Donald and Nyla Diekrager; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Hoff Celebration of Life Center in Goodview led by Funeral Celebrant Jenny Hoff.
