Thomas L. Doran of Altura died Saturday, January 29, 2005, at Season's Hospice in Rochester. He was born in Hermansville, Michigan on April 2nd, 1924 to Leo Thomas Doran and Queenie (Marcoe) Doran.Tom graduated from Hermansville High School in 1941. He attended Michigan State University for approximately 2 years until he was drafted into the U.S Army. While overseas in Europe, Tom played trombone in an Army swing band known as the Gremlins. After he returned from the service, he graduated from Michigan State University in 1949 with a degree in Business.On May 17, 1952 Tom married Bernette Schmit at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rollingstone. They made their home in Iron River, Michigan from 1952-1959 where he worked as an accountant. In 1959 they moved to Rollingstone and then to Altura in 1967. After the move in 1959, Tom became employed at Altura State Bank, eventually becoming Executive Vice President and retiring in 1989. He also had an Income Tax Preparation business for many years.Tom was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Altura, the St. Nicholas Society in Rollingstone, the Knights of Columbus, the Elks and the Lions Club. He enjoyed golfing, traveling with Bernette and of course, trips to the casino in his free time.He is survived by his three sons, Den (Kathy) Doran of Winona, Bill (Melanie) Doran of Rochester and Paul (Karin) Doran of Lewiston; four grandchildren, Josh, Jessie, Trent and Sierra; a brother James (Harriet) Doran of Murrieta, CA; and a sister Sue (Bill) Herber of Eden Prairie, MN.He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Bernette.There will be a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 3rd at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Altura.Burial will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Rollingstone.Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 2nd at St. Anthony Catholic Church and one hour before the service on Thursday. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening. The family requests memorials to Season's Hospice in Rochester, MN (a non-profit organization for the care of terminally ill people) in lieu of flowers.Hoff Funeral Homes Lewiston Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
