Thersa Frances Vermilya, 88 of St. Charles, died Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Golden Living Center - Whitewater.
Thersa was born June 7, 1927 in St. Charles to William and Blanche (Richards) Kahring. She graduated from St. Charles High School in 1944 and went on to get her teaching certificate. On June 2, 1946, Thersa married Hugh Vermilya and they made their home on a farm south of Dover. She taught at the Little Valley country school for the first few years of her marriage. A few years later, after her children were in school, she went back to substitute teaching and then full time at Dover-Eyota Elementary school where she received her 25 year service award before retiring.
Thersa enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, dancing and flea markets. But of most importance to her was time spent with her family; especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved playing cards and games with them and spoiling them with her cooking and baking.
She is survived by her two children, Jim (Sue) of St. Charles and Janith Mary (James) Jacobson of Howard Lake; three grandchildren, Steve (Amanda) Vermilya, Dave (Liz) Vermilya and Katie (Jon) Lund; four great-grandchildren, Jackson, Katelyn & Sam Vermilya and Emma Lund; two sisters, Joann Giles and Virginia Rupprecht.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh in 2014; her parents; two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service with the Reverend Steve McGinley officiating. Burial will follow at Little Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
