ST. CHARLES, MINN. - Thelma M. Schellhammer, 94, of St. Charles died Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Thelma was born on May 30, 1911, in Viola Township of Olmsted County, Minn. to Jay and Ida (Wooley) Smith. She was raised in Viola and was a 1929 graduate of Eyota High School. Thelma attended Winona State University for one year. She married Alfred Schellhammer on December 2, 1931, in Viola. Thelma and Alfred farmed in Viola, Dover and Eyota prior to moving to St. Charles in the mid-1950's. She worked for Hegseth's Get-n-Go, St. Charles Bakery for 18 years, Henry's Variety Store from 1979 to 2003 and was currently working at gathering and gifts, all in St. Charles. She was a volunteer at the Senior Center and at Whitewater Health Care Center in St. Charles. She was a very active member of St. Charles United Methodist Church where she did everything from cooking to committee's. Thelma's interests included NASCAR racing, the Minnesota Twins, Church Music, Embroidery, Playing Cards, Making Candy and Eating Out. Thelma was a very active woman all the way up until the time of her death. She is survived by one son, Gerald (Judy) Schellhammer of Rochester, Minn.; four daughters: Eileen Dessner of Byron, Minn., Joyce (Donald) Heyn of Elgin, Minn., Lois (David) Bishop of St. Charles, Minn. and Ruth Schellhammer of Wesminster, Colo.; one daughter-in-law, Ardis Schellhammer of Rocheter, Minn.; 16 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 10 step-great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Thelma is preceded in death by her husband, one son, Donald, 2 brothers: Floyd and Clair and two grandchildren. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, at St. Charles United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sharon Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery in St. Charles. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, at Hoff Funeral Homes - St. Charles Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
