RUSHFORD, MINN - Sylvia Madeline Bakken, 91, of Rushford died on Monday, May 7, 2007, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.Sylvia was born February 24, 1916, to Thore and Clara (Humble) Jensen on Highland Prairie, rural Rushford. She was baptized at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church and confirmed at Rushford Lutheran Church. She attended country school and later Rushford Public School. Sylvia married Herbert Bakken on June 11, 1936, at the Rushford Lutheran parsonage. Herbert died December 29, 1983. She was a homemaker and was a member of Rushford Lutheran Church and its women's groups. She was also active in the Helping Hand Club, a 4-H leader, and Sunday School teacher. She and Herbert farmed until moving to Rushford in 1978. She was a loving wife, mother and wonderful cook. She also helped bake lefse for the church Codfish Supper for many years. She also made rosettes for the annual Church Bazaar and was active in making quilts for Lutheran World Relief. Sylvia is survived by one son, Glen (Karen) Bakken of Rushford; three granddaughters, Amy (Christopher D.) Johnson of Rochester; Lisa (Erik) Sievers of Rushford; and Kathy (Chad) Kendhammer of La Crosse, WI; four great-grandchildren: Samuel and Benjamin Johnson and Jonah and Laci Sievers and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Ila Jensen. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Rushford Lutheran Church, Rushford with Pastor Roger Michaelson officiating. Burial will follow at the Rushford Lutheran Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Christopher D. Johnson, Erik Sievers, Chad Kendhammer, Gordon Johnson, Christopher S. Johnson, Timothy Johnson and Mark McCallum.
