Sylvester Christopher Mullen, 99 of Winona, died Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at St. Anne Extended Healthcare.
Sylvester was born March 1, 1920 in Hart Township to Frank and Carrie (Madelyn) Mullen. He served his country honorably in the United States Army Air Corp from 1942-1945 and he was awarded the Silver Star. On November 25, 1955, he married Mary Jo Schreiber. Sylvester worked at the Chicago Northwest Railroad, Standard Lumber and Winona State in maintenance and as their locksmith, retiring after 20 years. He was a member of the American Legion and volunteered on the Burial Detail. Sylvester was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.
He was an avid golfer and member of Westfield. He also enjoyed mowing, cutting wood, turkey hunting and loved his Ford Trucks.
Sylvester is survived by his children, Jon (Christina) Mullen of Winona, Pat Mullen of Winona, Kristie (Wayne) Rundell of Ashland, WI, Marty (Lisa) Mullen of Winona, Michael (Susan) Mullen of Winona, David (Karleen) Mullen of Lincoln, CA and Bob Mullen of Winona; two grandsons, Tom and Bob Mullen.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo in 1999; infant daughter, Mary Ann; daughter-in-law, Mary Mullen and brothers and sisters.
Funeral Service will be 1 p.m., Monday, November 11, 2019 at Hoff Celebration of Life Center led by the Reverend Mark McNea. Visitation will be 12 p.m., until the time of the service. Sylvester will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Winona Health.
