RUSHFORD, MN - Stanley R. Veir, 90, of Rushford, MN died on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.
Stanley was born on June 12, 1925, in Rushford to Lloyd and Alice (Swenside) Veir. He was raised in the Rushford area and attended Vinegar Hill and Rush Creek schools. On February 2, 1944, he was united in marriage with Alta Mae Bremmer. Stanley was married and later confirmed at his wife's home church, North Prairie Lutheran in rural Lanesboro, MN, where his two daughters were also baptized. Stanley farmed in the rural Lewiston and rural Peterson areas for several years. He was an independent truck driver, hauling livestock and feed until he worked for his brother-in-law, Milford Eide. Stanley also worked at the Rushford Sales Barn. He was a maintenance worker for five years at the Rushford School District and later worked for 27 years as the maintenance supervisor at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home after receiving his boiler license. Stanley and Alta Mae also owned and operated Veir's Motel for many years. He enjoyed working with his hands, buying horses and following his grandsons in their life activities. Playing with his great-grandchildren also brought him joy.
Stanley is survived by two daughters: Sharon Zamansky of Rushford, and Susan (Brian) Thompson of Peterson; two grandsons, Eric (Jessie) Thompson of Chatfield, MN, and Wade (Sarah) Thompson of Sunfish Lake, MN; two great-grandchildren: Aubrey and Ethan; and a sister, Katherine Laumb, Plainview, MN.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alta Mae who died this past December of kidney cancer; parents; son-in-law, Phil Zamansky; sister-in-law, Cherie Eide and her husband, Milford.
The family prefers memorials to be directed to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, Rushford Historical Society or the Peterson Museum.
Per Stanley and Alta Mae's wishes, they will be memorialized together at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at North Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Lanesboro with family friend, Dean Hatlevig officiating. Burial of their cremated bodies will follow in the North Prairie Lutheran Cemetery.
