Stanley “Stan” Charles Harcey, 91, of St. Charles graduated to Heaven Saturday, January 13, 2024 surrounded by loving and appreciative family members at Whitewater Health Services in St. Charles. Stan was born March 3, 1932 in Utica Township of Winona County to Ralph and Ruby (Small) Harcey. He attended several country schools through 8th grade, and graduated from St. Charles High School with the Mid-Century Saints. In 1954 he enlisted in the United States Army, achieving the rank of sergeant. As the Korean War ended, he was granted an early discharge to attend the school of agriculture in St. Paul.
Stan and Patricia Mullin were married at Fort Devens Army Chapel in Massachusetts. They returned to Saratoga Township and together founded and expanded Harcey’s Dairy Farm, earning multiple awards for both milk production and crop yields, and raising five young farmhands. They later purchased Smith’s Dairy in St. Charles, changed its name to Harcey’s Dairy, and delivered milk from the farm door to door in the community. Pat died in 2012 and Stan and LaVonne Mullin were married October 6, 2013.
A faithful follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, Stan was a founding member of the St. Charles Bible Church in 1948, where he taught adult Sunday School classes and mentored children in AWANA clubs - to many he was known as “Uncle Stan.” He distributed Bibles with Gideons International from 1972 until recently. He also served on the St. Charles School Board and was a member of Land O Lakes and the Farm Bureau. Later he was inducted into of the Winona County Fair Hall of Fame. Stan’s joy was to host celebrations with ice cream cones or root beer floats.
Stan’s greatest legacy is those who will miss him most: his wife LaVonne, those five farmhands, Brenda (Scott) Carlson of Arizona; Brenton (Kim) Harcey of Cambridge; Bruce (Molly) Harcey of Nampa, ID; Beth (Rob) Griffin of Crete, IL; and Brian (Kimberly) Harcey of Traverse City, MI. He also loved LaVonne’s children, Pam Benike; Kim (Jay) Larson; Cheryl (Chris) Schaefer; Louise (Wayne) Stenberg; Paul (Mary) Hanson; Ruth (Mike) Hamilton; Lois (Jim) Persons and James Hanson, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and an adoring sister, Joyce Narveson. In addition to Jesus Christ, Stan was welcomed into Heaven by his first wife, Pat, LaVonne’s daughter, Beth, and several brothers and sisters.
In lieu of flowers, Stan requested donations be made to Gideons International.
