Shirley Tacie Stiehm, 62, died peacefully at her home on Friday, April 8, 2011 after battling with congestive heart failure for many years.On January 11, 1949, Shirley was born in Mountain Lake to Edwin and Judith (Ross) College. She graduated from Mountain Lake High School with the class of 1966 and was united in marriage to John Michaels in 1972. Together, they raised 3 children in Mountain Lake. In 1985, she and her children were in a car accident that paralyzed her son, Mikie. From that point forward, she took the responsibility of caring for him. Mikie went to be with the Lord Jesus in December 2002. Shirley made Winona her home in 1994, and her children followed her there.Though she never went to culinary school, Shirley's cooking was professional quality. As often as she could, Shirley would cook and bake for family and friends, especially home fried chicken and watermelon. She used food as her avenue to share her love of Christ with others. Shirley also enjoyed gardening, canning, and spending time outdoors by the water. She was an avid reader her whole life and a child at heart, so picnics and tea parties were high on her list of fun things to do.She is survived by daughters, Correen (Jerry) Zimmer and Judy (Tom) Rothering of Winona; sisters, Betty Steiner of Hugo and Sandra (Tom) Hanson of Butterfield; brothers, Eldon (Janis) College of Little Canada and Gene (June) College of Omaha; grandchildren, James (22), Aidan (19), Sarah (14), Joshua (14), Craig (12) and Andrew (11). Shirley also left behind her beloved friend, Judith Michael, as well as her cat Tiger, who was a loyal comfort and companion. She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Mikie, and brother, Eddie.Visitation will be at Hoff Funeral Home-Hansen Goodview Chapel on Friday, April 15, 2011 from 6-8pm and also one hour prior to the service at church. Funeral service will be held at 10am, Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Living Light Church with Pastor Sonny Misar officiating. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona.
