Shirley Mae (Mullen) Sobeck

February 26, 1935 — March 19, 2008

Shirley Mae (Mullen) Sobeck, 73, was born to Patrick John and Rose (Adank) Mullen in Winona, MN, February 26, 1935, one of ten children. She died March 19, 2008, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN, surrounded by her family. Shirley is survived by her devoted husband of fifty years, Eugene E. Sobeck; six daughters, Cynthia Marie Prodzinski of Muscatine, IA, Karla Rose Mullen (Jerry) Laughlin of Omaha, NE, Renee Ann (Daniel) Foster of LaCrescent, MN, Kelly Jean (Steve) Welch of Castle Rock, CO, Kay Lynn (Brent) Bailey of Minnesota City, MN, and Nikki Jo (Troy) Bohm of Loveland, CO; ten grandchildren, Kira Rose, Cassie rose, Kylynn Rose, Alexander Delos, Mikaela Ann, Teah Mae, Hunter Patrick, Kaelen Rose, Alysa Rose and Dolan Robert; sister, Betty (Jack) Nelson of Winona, MN; stepchildren, Rita (Patrick) Prodzinski, Randy (Deb) Sobeck and Rick (Carrie) Sobeck whose children and grandchildren have brought great joy to Shirley's life. Other survivors include her many nieces and nephews, and friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings and stepdaughter, Debbie (Sobeck) Brommerich. In addition to her family, Shirley was a great lover of nature and all animals and was a fervent and loyal Minnesota Vikings Fan. Shirley was active and selfless in her work with the Winona Area Humane Society. In 2000, she fulfilled a lifelong dream of visiting Ireland, the birthplace of her father, with her daughters. Her sense of humor, passion for life, sensitivity and compassion for all living things are a legacy that will live on in her large, exuberant family. "Erin Go Bragh"A celebration of Shirley's life will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at 11:00am at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service Hansen Goodview Chapel with The Reverend William David Byrne officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Winona. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5-8:00pm and also one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
