Sheri Lou Hemmelman

April 3, 1948 — September 19, 2017

Sheri Hemmelman, 69 of Goodview, died Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Hospital - St. Mary's Campus with her family at her side.
Sheri was born April 3, 1948 in Winona to Irving and Bette (Wilson) Smith. She grew up in St. Charles and graduated from St. Charles High School in 1966. Sheri moved to Winona to attend Cosmetology school and worked as a beautician for 10 years. While in Winona, she met the love of her life, Butch Hemmelman and they were married February 22, 1975 in St. Charles. Sheri was a stay at home mom while her two daughters, Staci & Holly were young. They were her pride and joy and once they were both in school, she became a playground supervisor at Goodview Elementary and was a Girl Scout Leader for many years.
Once her kids were grown, she worked at Econo Foods, Knitcraft, Midtown Foods and Chartwells at St. Mary's Unviersity, retiring in 2015.
Her family was her pride and joy and she would do anything that they enjoyed, just so they could spend time together. Camping with the family at Lazy D was a favorite of hers and she would spend most of the summer there. Sheri enjoyed playing Shanghai Rummy with her mom and aunt Toot and teaching her kids and grandkids how to play; as well as teaching them how to bake, which was a true talent of hers.
Sheri is survived by her husband, Butch; two daughters, Staci (Steve) Gricius of Winona and Holly (Jeff) Gagen of Chicago, IL; four granddaughters, Aliya & Sophia Gricius and Madison and Aislin Gagen; her father, Irv Smith of St. Charles; twin brother, Scott (Judy) Smith of Gulf Shores, AL; brother, Rollie Smith of St. Charles; great-uncle, Joe Wilson of Bloomington; many nieces and nephews and her beloved cat, Daisy.
Sheri was preceded in death by her mother, Bette Smith; and brothers-in-law, Jimmy Hemmelman and Butch Ciszak.
A Celebration of her life will be 2 p.m., Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Hoff Celebration of Life Center - Goodview. Visitation will be 12 p.m., until the time of the service. Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Smith, Lee Smith, Chuck Smith, Steve Gricius, Jeff Gagen.
Memorials are preferred to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Hoff Celebration of Life Center - Goodview is assisting the family with arrangements. Please share a memory of Sheri, sign her online guestbook and view her video tribute when it becomes available.
