Sharon Ann Speer

November 26, 1940 — February 17, 2024

Fountain

Sharon Speer, 83, of Fountain, peacefully passed away at her home on Saturday, February 17, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Sharon was born on November 26, 1940, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester to Leo and Loretta (Fitzgerald) Butler.  Sharon Ann Speer was raised in Chatfield, and graduated from Chatfield HS in 1959. On May 6th, 1961, she married Stan Speer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chatfield.

Sharon began her career at Mayo Clinic, where she served in clerical support. She dedicated over four decades as the Assistant City Clerk of Fountain while dedicating time to raising her children.  She took joy in cooking at her son Steve’s establishment, Chucker’s Bar & Grill in Fountain and Chester, IA, where numerous cherished memories were created over the years, often accompanied by a Bud Light with ice.

Weekends were a source of delight for Sharon and Stan, who frequented casinos. Her passions extended to gardening, dancing, reading, and, above all, spending quality time with family, actively engaging in their lives.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Stan Speer, and her children: Steve (Jan) Speer, Scott (Linda) Speer, and Shannon (Tom) Knoepke. She leaves behind grandchildren Tiffany (Pete) Ask, Tori Eide, Tyler (Chelsea) Speer, Sydney Speer, Tasha (Ryan) Sass, Jackson Knoepke, and Jayson Knoepke, as well as great-grandchildren Taylor, Carter, Brooklyn Berkeley, Everett, Stella, Streat, Saxon, and Scarlet. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Loretta, and in-laws Frank and Edna.

Heartfelt gratitude is extended to all friends and family who visited her during the past few months.  Special acknowledgment goes to her "sisters from another mother," Karen Koch and Jodi Eickhoff, as well as past neighbors Linda and Herman Freese.  A heartfelt thank you to Sandy Marzolf, who faithfully showed up for her very important weekly hair appointments until her passing.  Finally, sincere appreciation for the consistent care and guidance provided by Season’s Hospice during her time at home in hospice care.

The Funeral Mass for Sharon will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday February 21, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chatfield. Visitation will be for Tuesday, February 20, 2024, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the church, continuing on Wednesday morning from 10 -11 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery following the service and lunch served after burial.
