Selma Serena (Waadevig) Turner, 91, of Chatfield, formerly of Elba, passed away peacefully with family by her side on December 27, 2010 at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield where she had resided the last three months.She was born June 17, 1919 in Arendahl Township, the second oldest child of seven to Johannes and Ida (Berge) Waadevig.Maynard Turner and Selma were married February 28, 1950. At that time they united their two families as one. Maynard passed away November 27, 1998.Selma's kind heart and beautiful personality will always be remembered. She showed incredible strength and courage when facing any challenge throughout life and that strength helped to bond her family together. She made each person feel very special and gave out an abundant supply of love. She will be remembered for passing on her Norwegian Heritage with all of her wonderful baking.Selma enjoyed a fifteen year career at Whitewater State Park registering campers. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in St. Charles, Elba Senior Citizens and past President of the Able Homemakers.She is survived by her children, Lana (Rich) Lange of St. Charles, Gert (Dick) Wilson of Boy River, MN, Vivian Reineccius of Wabasha, Donald Brunner of Spokane, WA; two granddaughters, Tammy (Rich) Huber and Shelly (Jeff) Snyder that she also raised as her own; 26 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; a brother, Clifford (Phyllis) Waadevig, sister-in-law, Grace Waadevig; and many nieces and nephews.Selma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Maynard; children, John, Albert, Loretta, Gene and Sandy; sisters, Judy Thompson and Bernice Watson; brothers, Markus, Hillard and Bennie Waadevig; and a very special friend, Marvin Becker.Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 3, 2011 at Faith Lutheran Church in St. Charles with the Reverend Steve McGinley officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m., Sunday at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service in St. Charles and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
