St. Charles

Sadie Marie Koenig, 83 of St. Charles, surrounded by her family passed away peacefully Monday, February 17, 2025, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Mary’s Campus.

Sadie was born January 30, 1942, in Winona to Emil and Mary (Biver) Hoppe. She was raised in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1960. In 1961, she married Orville Hentges. They lived in Utica with their children when Orville unexpectedly passed away in December of 1967. In 1970, Sadie married Ray Koenig. They had many wonderful years together until his passing in 2007.

Sadie worked hard to take care of her family. She worked as a waitress at the Little Acorn in Utica and eventually as a cook when it became the Golden Horn. She also worked at the St. Charles nursing home as a cook and medical assistant. At the age of 40, Sadie graduated from Winona Tech with her LPN. She then worked at Lewiston Villa until her retirement.

Sadie was an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church where she was a member and secretary of the Rosary Society. She also was a homebound eucharistic minister and occasionally helped in the office. Sadie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was often the driver when it came to friends’ lunch dates, appointments and even casino trips. She also enjoyed playing bingo, cards, puzzles, crosswords, gardening and was an avid reader. She loved her four-legged companions, Bill and Jake, and taking care of her grand-dog, Ginny.

Sadie is survived by her children, Lynn (Dean) Bockenhauer of St. Charles, Mike (Tae Min) Hentges of Highland Village, Texas, Lisa (Ray) Johansen of Shoreview, Chuck Hentges of Winona and Tom Hentges of Stockton; grandchildren, Johanna, Audrey, Kelsi, Alexa, Bo, Angela, Alex, Josh, Dominic and Sean; great-grandchildren, Landon, Logan, Ava, Aiden, Briar, Campbell, Ryder and Henry; step-children, Curt (Gayle) Koenig and Ed (Peggy) Koenig; step-grandchildren, Angela, Stephanie, Michelle, Melissa and Chad, many step-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Pam Hoppe.

She was preceded in death by her father, Emil Hoppe, mother, Mary Hoppe and step-mother, Ivanetta Hoppe; husbands, Orville Hentges and Ray Koenig; grandchildren, Hunter Schwieder and Nicole Hentges; sister, Dianne Krahn and brother, David Hoppe.
