Ruth Louise Barry

Winona, MN Ruth L. Barry, 90, of Goodview, MN, died Thursday, January 10, 2008 at Lake Winona Manor in Winona, MN. Ruth was born on April 6, 1917 in Savage, MT to Carl F. and Jesse (Strachan) Doerge. She attended St. Charles High School and took courses at Rochester Junior College in Rochester, MN. She married Richard Maynard Barry on August 16, 1936 in Decorah, IA. They made their home in St. Charles, MN. Ruth worked as a housekeeper, gas station attendant, lunch counter entrepreneur, Kiddie Shop owner, Singer Sewing Machine instructor, bank employee, and seamstress. In 1970 Richard and Ruth moved to Goodview, MN. Richard passed away on September 8, 1991. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Winona, MN and the American Legion Auxiliary. Ruth held offices in her church sewing circle and was Head of Plymouth Guild. Her hobbies included sewing, and designing children's clothing. Survivors include two sons, John M. (Toni) Barry, MD of Portland, OR and James H. (Kay) Barry of North Hills, CA; four grandchildren, Wendy Barry, Tamara Barry, Michelle Barry, and John Brian Barry; brother Lloyd Doerge of CA; sister Lois Doerge of CA; sister-in-law Bernice Doerge of St. Charles; and god daughter Debra (Louis) Heim of St. Charles. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Richard, and two brothers Robert Doerge and Harold Doerge. The Funeral Service for Ruth will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, January 14, 2008 at United Church of Christ in St. Charles, MN with the Reverend Rick King officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in St. Charles. Friends may call from 5-8PM at Hoff Funeral Home - St. Charles Chapel on Sunday, January 13, 2008 and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
