Ruth MacKimm, age 97, died Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Rushford, MN where she had resided since February, 2007.Ruth Edna Ukkestad was born April 4, 1914 in Yucatan Township, Houston County, MN, the oldest of five children born to Theodore E. and Julia J. (Olson) Ukkestad. She attended Ferndale Country School and Rushford Public High School. In the 1940s, she worked as a Dental Technician in Miami, Florida.Ruth was known for her sewing abilities, being an accomplished seamstress and tailor. In New York City, NY she married Chauncy (Chick) Waltman on October 14, 1953. They lived in Chicago, IL and also had a home in Woodstock, IL. In Woodstock, Ruth was a long time member of the Bull Valley Garden Club which showcased her talents in flower arranging and window design. Ruth and Chick enjoyed traveling abroad. Chick died October 13, 1962.On April 25, 1970 Ruth married Charles MacKimm in Chicago, where they resided. Time away was spent at the MacKimm farm in Fort Atkinson, WI and the Ukkestad family home in Rushford which they purchased and later moved to. Later they built a home in Rushford where they continued to live. Charles died April 13, 1993.Ruth was a member of the Fourth Presbyterian Church, Chicago, IL.Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and husbands as well as sisters Anna Ukkestad Killham and Elenore Ukkestad Killham. She is survived by her sister, Thelma Ukkestad Anderson; brother and sister-in-law, Glenn M. and Rachel Ukkestad, all of Rushford. She is also survived by nephews and nieces: Carl Ukkestad, LaCrescent, MN, Elizabeth Ukkestad LaFleur, Rushford, Dianne Killham Vachon, Colorado Springs, CO, and Thomas Killham, Guffey, CO. Survivors also include great-nieces and nephews, Shanon Vachon, Brooke Vachon, Julia LaFleur, and Phillip LaFleur.Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church, Rushford. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.Pallbearers are: Carl Ukkestad, Phillip LaFleur, Allen LaFleur, Levi Olstad, Kenny Highum, and W. John Peterson.
