Ruth E. Gaustad

HOUSTON, MINN. - Ruth E. Gaustad, 87, of Houston, Minn. died on Monday, April 6, 2009, at the Caledonia Care and Rehab Center in Caledonia, Minn. Ruth was born on March 10, 1922, in Money Creek Township of Houston County, Minn. to Alfred and Sena (Henderson) Nelson. Ruth was raised in Money Creek where she attended country school. She graduated from Houston High School. Ruth worked for various area homes doing housework and childcare. On November 7, 1946, Ruth married Neil Gaustad in Houston. She cared for her parents and Uncle Gus for several years and later did domestic work in Winona. Ruth also loved caring for her granddaughters. She was very involved in her neighborhood and would do anything for anybody. Ruth was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Barbara Burroughs of Houston; three granddaughters: Kari Deters, Amber Eide, and Brooke Benson; four great-granddaughters: Emma Chealsy, Hilary, and Rachel; one sister, Eileen Krage of Houston; and four sisters-in-law: Edith Nelson of Winona, Minn., Irene Tweito of Waukon, Iowa, Olive Ann Cauthens of San Diego, Cal., and Beulah Gaustad of Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, and three sisters. The funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 10, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Rev. Louise Stromberg officiating. Burial will be in the Stone Church Cemetery in Houston. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, at Hoff Funeral Homes - Houston Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
