Ruth (Mrs. Harvey) Polzin, 90, of Rochester died Thursday October 13, 2005 at Moore Elder Care in Rochester. Ruth was born August 22, 1915 in Cottonwood, MN to Henry and Edna (Lohmann) Betcher. She lived in Hastings and Zumbrota as a child. In 1933 Ruth graduated from Rochester High School as class president and valedictorian. Prior to starting employment at the Kahler Corporation in 1937 she worked for F.W.Woolworth and Singer Sewing Co. In 1979 Ruth retired from Kahler Corporation as Executive Secretary/ Supervisor in Purchasing Division. On November 22, 1947 Ruth married Harvey Polzin of Dover at the Fort Snelling Chapel in St. Paul. Mr. Polzin retired from the Rochester School District in 1977 and died November 20, 1995. The couple enjoyed traveling. Ruth was an avid reader and collected small horses and individual antique salts and Hummels. Ruth was a lifetime member of Peace United Church of Christ and its Lois Circle. She also belonged to the Rochester senior citizen group and AARP. Survivors include her step-mother Laura Betcher of Lake City, three half brothers, Henry and Alvin Betcher of Mazeppa and Lloyd Betcher of Lake City. She is also survived be nieces; Minnita Jacobson, Clydene Schultz, Lori Huffman, Nephews; Donald Polzin, Larry Polzin and Dale Betcher, godchild; David Lohmann, special friends Ruth Richardson and Spencer Stevenson. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and special godchild, LaRae Schulz Bray.
