Forsyth, 95, of Houston, Minn. died on Friday, June 14, 2013, at Franciscan - Skemp Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis. Russell was born on September 30, 1917, in Houston, Minn. to Edwin G. and Erma C. (Onstein) Forsyth. He was raised in Houston. He graduated from Houston High school and from the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. On August 31, 1940, Russell was united in marriage with Laura Traff. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the U.S. Lanier Destroyer Escort. He worked for La Crosse Plumbing. Russell ran his father's plumbing business in Houston and later became a partner in Flom and Forsyth Plumbing Contractors. He also worked for Winona Plumbing from where he retired. Russell was a member of the Arnet - Sheldon American Legion Post in Houston and the Plumbers Union. He enjoyed spending summers on Leech Lake, spending time on his boathouse in Brownsville, and traveling with his wife throughout the United States and Canada. Russell is survived by his wife, Laura; son, Dennis (Nancy) Forsyth of Houston; four grandchildren: Patrick (Nancy) Forsyth, Taylor (Tami) Forsyth, Mitch (Heather) Forsyth, and Danielle (Steve) Walters; and by eleven great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Rev. Lane Zaffke officiating. Burial will be in the Money Creek Cemetery in Money Creek, Minn. with Military Honor's by the Arnet - Sheldon American Legion Post. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Russell's family prefers memorials to be directed to the Valley View Foundation in Houston. Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in Houston is assisting the family with arrangements.
