Roman Robert Lubinski

Roman R. Lubinski Roman left his home in the early evening hours on May 2nd to be with his beloved, Marian, after a brief hospital stay at Winona Health and Gunderson in LaCrosse.He was born on October 29, 1929 to Felix and Anastasia "Stella" (Scharmach) Lubinski in Winona, MN. He married Marian Mahlke on June 5, 1954 and they celebrated 59 years together.Roman served in the United States Navy, retiring after 25 years of duty with the rank of Lieutenant JG. While serving, he was assigned to the submarine the USS Blenny, USS Rohn, USS Oklahoma and he was the Commander of the Naval Training Center in Hancock, Michigan prior to his retirement. He was a Korean War Veteran and was very proud of his service, honor and duty to his country. After his Naval retirement, Roman was an insurance agent for Farmers Insurance Group, worked for Winona Fleeting as a chief engineer and his second retirement was from Badger Foundry.Back in the day, Roman, also known as "Cubbie", "Romie" or "Ski", was an avid outdoors man, chef, card shark, chess player, jokester and story teller. Romie loved to make people laugh. His laugh was unforgettable! He and Marian hosted many "shin-digs" at the cottage on the mighty Missisip. He was the Commander for the American Legion Club in 1980 and he also served on the firing squad. He was a member of the American legion, VFW, Eagles and Redmen Clubs.Roman leaves behind five loving children: Lisa (Mike) Torfin, Lee Lubinski, Ondrej (Tami) Lubinski, Shayna (Joe) Dais and Fritz (Solvieg) Lubinski. He was also blessed with 14 grandchildren: Audumn (Craig), Lindzee (Pat), Brittany (Warren), Reona, Jeffrey, Jenna, Rachel, Jessica, Damon (Tanya), Matt, Andrew, Austin, Mallory (Sam), Michael (Kristin); and 6 great-grandchildren: Hayden, Harley, Lillian, Kenley, Easton, Myles, Hudson, Easton, Lucas, Zachary and Katie; Sisters: Rosemary Riska and Joni Papenfuss. He was proceeded in death by his wife Marian, parents, and brothers John and Clarence. A Gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 7th from 4:30 pm with a short prayer service at 6:30 pm and a light lunch served afterward at Hoff Celebration of Life Center in Goodview, MN. The Winona American Legion will provide military honors following the service.
