Romaine E. Ashelin

Romaine E. Ashelin, 70, died Monday, October 27, 2008, at his home in Winona, MN. Romaine was born on September 25, 1938, in Winona County, MN, to Julius and Margaret (Thesing) Ashelin. Romaine was raised in the Winona area and attended the Winona Public Schools. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963. Romaine married Gloria Howe on September 30, 1961, at St. Mary's Church in Winona, MN. Romaine retired in 2000 from Thern Inc. He enjoyed being at home, working in his garden, being outdoors, cutting his yearly supply of wood and hauling it in his scout. He also enjoyed listening to ball games on the radio. In his younger days he enjoyed playing guitar with the Kenny Carl Band from Winona, and also with the County Cousins Band from Decorah, IA. Romaine was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Winona, MN. Survivors include his wife Gloria; children, James (Wendy) Ashelin of Winona, MN, and Susan (William) Bronk of Fountain City, WI; four grandchildren, Mara Fenske, Jordan Ashelin, Aaron Bronk and Zachary Bronk; sisters, Rosemary (Sylvester) Erpelding of Winona, MN, and Evelyn (Jack) Duellman of Winona, MN; brothers, Vincent (Lorraine) Ashelin of Winona, MN, and Thomas (Polly) Ashelin of Tucson, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Raphael, Victor, Theodore, George, David, Wayne and sister, Bernadine.A Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, October 30, 2008, at Noon at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Reverend William Becker officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Winona, MN. Friends may call from 10:00am until the time of service in the Visitation Commons at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Winona.
