Robert Wise

November 16, 1926 — July 29, 2018

Robert "Bob" Wise, 91, of Winona passed away peacefully Sunday, July 29, 2018, at Lake Winona Manor.
He was born November 16, 1926, in Winona, Minnesota to Everett and Erna (Heaser) Wise. He attended Jefferson Elementary and Cotter High School. Post graduation he honorably served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was stationed in Italy. Bob earned his teaching degree from Winona State University. Bob married the love of his life, Luella Scherbring, on October 28, 1950. He started his teaching career in Elgin, Minnesota where he taught drafting and woodworking and coached football and track. He continued his teaching career at St. Stans and Cotter High School and then Winona Middle and Winona Senior High School before his retirement in 1989.
Bob and Luella were blessed with seven children. When his kids were still young, the family spent a lot of time camping in Whitewater State Park and trout fishing. He loved to fish and golf in the summer, ice fish in the winter and hunt in the fall. He faithfully cheered on his Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He and Luella took up dancing after they were married and enjoyed ballroom and line dancing together. They belonged to the line dancing group Boot Scootin' Grannies. Bob was the only man in the group, and the attention that this brought did not bother him. The Boot Scootin' Grannies would dance at nursing homes and other functions. They even appeared on a few television shows in Nashville. Bob belonged to the church choir at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart for 30 years.
Those who knew Bob will remember him as an amazing husband, father, grandfather, friend and teacher. He was the sweetest, kindest and most patient man. He was a great storyteller and a wonderful listener. He led by example and inspired those around him.
Bob is lovingly survived by his wife of 68 years, Luella; children Debra (Lindsey) Posey, Linda (Tony) Kiedrowski, William Wise, Barbara (Jeff) Canar, Michael (Anne) Wise, Karen (Donny) Andre, and daughter-in-law Jill Wise. Grandchildren Kelly (Tim) Allington, Molly (Robert) Posey-Heyer, Michael (Lindsey) Posey, Andy (Becky) Kiedrowski, Paul (Julie) Kiedrowski, Peter (Samantha) Kiedrowski, Jared Wise, Jenna Wise, Jonathan Wise, Paul Wise, David Canar, Brian Canar, Andrea (Andrew) Meyer, Joseph Wise, Kathryn Wise, Jacob Andre and Sarah Andre. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren Ben, Ryan, Damien, Connor, Jack, Claire, Lexi, Cole, Kane, Reed, Jane, Owen, Norah, Thomas, Jase, Henry and one on the way; sister, Betty (George) Hansen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Thomas Wise and daughter-in-law Bridget Wise.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, August 3 at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Winona with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona.
