Robert "Bob" Rusert, 64, of Minnesota City passed away after a long battle with cancer at his home on June 16, 2024. Bob was born March 20, 1960 at Winona Community Memorial Hospital to Donald and Mary (Kohner) Rusert. He graduated from Winona High School in 1978 and continued his education at Winona Area Vo Tech for Mechanic and Auto Body Repair. As a result of this Bob developed a hobby of restoring classic cars. This included his '69 Olds Cutlass and more recent a '69 Olds 442. He was very meticulous about his cars but his greatest passion has always been his music. He learned to play guitar at a very young age and went on to play lead electric guitar and sing vocals in several area bands such as Ritz, Jaded Heart, Swift Creek and Big Woody. Bob had a soft heart and was an animal lover his entire life especially when it came to his dogs Chewy and Jasmine. For 30 years Bob worked for Winona Lighting, now Acuity Brands, as a Custom Sheetmetal Fabricator.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Louise (Kohner) Rusert Thorne, a daughter Misty Peterson, siblings, Dick (Betty) Rusert; Debbie Rusert; Lori (Bill) Quandahl; and Karen Rusert, and several nieces and nephews, mostly who reside in Winona. He was preceded in death by his father and his step-father.
A Celebration of Bob's Life will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at The Winona Eagles Lodge from 1:00pm - 4:00p.m.
