Robert Lyle Overland, 82, of Rushford, Minn., died at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wisc. on Sunday, October 26, 2003 due to complications following open heart surgery. Robert was born on November 25, 1920, in Winona to Ben and Olga (Helleland) Overland. He grew up in the Rushford area, graduated from Rushford High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945. Robert never married. He farmed in partnership with his brother, Willard until 1997 at Bratsberg. He moved to Rushford in 1998. He was a faithful member of Rushford Lutheran Church. He loved his family, cross word puzzles, going on rides and to auctions, T.V., and collecting glassware. He is survived by two sisters: Phyllis (Carmen) Johnson of Whalan, Minn. and Edith Peterson of Houston, Minn.; one sister in law, Irene Overland of Rushford; three nieces: Shelley Jerviss of Houston, Minn., Connie Simpson of Bangor, Wis., and Fay (Ross) Himlie of Rushford; four nephews: Larry Jerviss of Houston, Minn., Brian (Lisa) Jerviss of Hokah, Minn., Lee (Carolyn) Jerviss of Houston, Minn., and Steven Johnson of Whalan, Minn.; three great nieces: Kelly Jerviss, and Nell and Leah Himlie; two great ? nephews: Eric and Luke Jerviss, and Roberts best friend, Alton Morken. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Willard Overland. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2003, at Rushford Lutheran Church in Rushford with the Rev. David Watson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Hoff Funeral Homes ? Rushford Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in the Church cemetery with military honors by the Rushford American Legion. Robert was a kind, loving man and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Casket Bearers will be his nephews: Steven Johnson, Larry Jerviss, Brian Jerviss, Lee Jerviss, Eric Jerviss, and Ross Himlie. Blessed be his memory. Memorials are preferred to the Rushford Lutheran Church.
