Robert E. Kroening, 82, died Friday, August 8, 2008, at Golden Living Center in St. Charles, MN. Robert was born August 12, 1925, in Elba Township, MN to Elmer and Orma (Wischow) Kroening. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1944. Robert served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was stationed in the Philippine Islands. He married Lorraine Ryan on October 27, 1947, in St. Charles, MN. Robert was a farmer whose working career included milking for the Rochester St. Mary's Hospital farm, Auto Body repair and bus driver for Frisch & Johnson in St. Charles, and 32 year employee at IBM retiring in 1989. Robert was a member of Berea Moravian Church in St. Charles where he served on the church board for several years. He was also a 60 year member of the American Legion in St. Charles and the IBM Quarter Century Club. Robert enjoyed camping, playing cards, traveling and collecting stamps. Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; five children, Wayne (Lynda), Kim (Marie), Patrick (Robin) all of St. Charles, MN, Craig (Rose) of Eyota, MN and Tami (Mike) Heim of St. Charles, MN; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and sister, Marguerite (Herb) Walsh of Knoxville, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Terry, and brother, Lester.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at 11:00am at Berea Moravian Church in St. Charles, MN. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in St. Charles, MN. Friends may call at Hoff Funeral Homes - St. Charles Chapel on Tuesday from 5-8:00pm and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
