Robert E. "Bob" Glover, 78, of St. Charles died Thursday January 4, 2007 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Bob was born February 13, 1928 in Chatfield to Oscar and Frances (Johnstone) Glover. He graduated from Chatfield High School in 1946. In school he was an avid athlete, playing football and baseball. He was a member of Chatfield's undefeated and un-scored on football team of 1945. Following high school he attended Winona State College for one year. He then moved to St. Cloud and played minor league baseball. Bob and Marlys Eppard were married on June 3, 1948 at the Racine United Methodist Church. In January of 1951 Bob entered the Air Force. He fought in the Korean War in 1953. Bob was then stationed in Germany for three years, serving in the Air Forces' Air Police. In 1971 he retired from active duty. The couple then lived in Texas for a year where he worked for the Job Core. In 1972 Bob began work as a Special Officer for the US Secret Service and was assigned to guard Pres. Richard Nixon at his Key Biscayne, FL residence. He later transferred to Washington D.C., working in the US Treasury Building. In 1976 he was assigned to guard Pres. Jimmy Carter at Plains, Georgia and continued the assignment until his retirement from the Secret Service in 1992. With the Carters he often traveled abroad as he guarded and drove for the President and Mrs. Carter. Following retirement Bob and Marlys lived in Leavenworth, KS, moving to St. Charles in 1996. Survivors include his wife Marlys, two daughters, Sharon (Allan) Justin of St. Charles and Joan (Jim) Panek of Manhattan, KS, six grandchildren; Jennifer, Lori, Cody, Karen, Bo and Jenni, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Pete Glover and a grandson. Funeral Services will be 11AM Tuesday at Hoff Funeral Home's - St. Charles Chapel with brother-in-law Rev. Marvin Eppard officiating. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Monday and 10-11AM Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow services at Saratoga Cemetery in rural St. Charles.
