HOFF CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER - 507-452-4241
Robert "Bob" C. Johnson, 53, of Winona, MN died on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, in Winona.
Bob was born on August 7, 1962, in Lanesboro, MN to Robert "Jim" and Joan (Landsverk) Johnson. He lived in Lanesboro until the age of four when he and his family moved to Winona. Bob was a 1980 graduate of Winona Senior High School. He graduated from Winona State University with a Bachelors Degree in Geology. In 1991, Bob began working in Alaska for Conoco Phillips Company as a geochemist explorer. Bob always had a great interest in music. He began playing the violin in third grade and in middle school learned to play the trumpet. It was then that his instructor realized the Bob was not reading the music, but was playing by ear. Since that time, music has played a major role in his life. Bob has been a well known musician in the area for many years, specializing in bluegrass music. He could play any string instrument you put in his hand. Bob was always known to be a great supporter of local musicians, often donating some of his instruments to up and coming musicians.
Bob is survived by his parents: Jim and Joan Johnson of Winona; two sisters: Jennifer (Craig) Mann of Rochester, MN and Susan Twait of Mahtomedi, MN; six nieces and nephews: Lindsey (Jesse), Ashley (Nate), Brittany, Oliver, Josie and Megan; and by three great-nephews: Cameron, Taylor and Skyler.
There will be a memorial service for Bob at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at Hoff Celebration of Life Center in Goodview, MN where there will be a visitation from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
The family prefers memorials to be directed to Winona Public Schools for their music department. It was very important to Bob that all children have the opportunity to learn to sing and play music.
