Robert "Bob" Edward Bain, 80, of Fremont died Monday, January 23, 2017 at St. Charles Assisted Living. Bob was born September 28, 1936 in Winona to John and Gladys (Olson) Bain. He was raised on the family farm near Fremont and graduated from Lewiston High School. Bob was proud of being a Marine, having served from December 1954 to December 1957, stationed in Hawaii and the Philippines. On February 15, 1958 Bob and Gloria Swiggum were married at Arendahl Lutheran Church. They made their home in Minneapolis for four years, where Bob worked for the stockyards in St. Paul, before returning to Fremont to farm. Together they raised their three children; Pamela (Randy) Speltz of Plainview, Craig (Heidi) Bain of Fremont and Jodi (Roger) Schumacher of Rollingstone. Gloria died April 28, 1988. He then married Susie Nahrgang and they later divorced.
Bob enjoyed working as a custodian at the I-90 Enterprise rest area near Lewiston, and enjoyed farming with his son and family. He appreciated the new friendships he made during his stay at St. Charles Assisted Living. Bob was involved with 4-H in his younger years and enjoyed supporting it in his adult life, including the 4-H livestock auction. He was a board member for Preble Insurance for many years. Bob treasured his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his three children, Bob is survived by grandchildren; Brian (Sarah) Speltz, Kaitlin Bain, Ashton (Joe) Lorenz, Evan Bain, Hannah Bain, Peyton Schumacher, Allison Schumacher and Isabel Schumacher, great-grandchildren, Raylan Speltz and Paisley Lorenz, two brothers, Dale (Jeanann) Bain of Big Lake and Neil (Vickie) Bain of West Salem, WI. In addition to his wife Gloria, Bob was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gladys and a sister, Elaine.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Our Savior Moravian Church in Altura with the Reverend David Sobeck officiating. Friends may call at Our Savior Moravian Church from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and 10 - 11 a.m. Thursday. Military honors will be conducted by the Lewiston American Legion following services at the church.
