Lewiston,Rita Ann Schloegel, 82, of Lewiston died Tuesday morning, April 29th at Golden Living Center in St. Charles. Rita was born December 22, 1931 in Leola, South Dakota to John and Barbara (Hartman) Kallas. Rita fell in love with "The love of her life", John Schloegel, at her sister's wedding in South Dakota. They married in Leola on June 2, 1953 and made their home at Lewiston where they farmed on the family farm.Family was the center of her life; proud of her four children, 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Rita's catholic faith was very important to her, as she was well known for making rosaries for family and many friends. She was also known for baking homemade bread, with cheese from the Fremont Creamery in it making the best grilled cheese sandwiches. She also made delicious homemade tomato soup and squash pies. Quilting was a passion for Rita, having won many awards at the county and state fair. Rita liked collecting beanie babies. Her grandkids loved playing with them. Rita often said she never imagined how much the kids would like to play with them.Rita was a faithful member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church; St. Anne's circle and had been a religious teacher. She also belonged to the Fremont Sunshine Club and the Red Hat Ladies.Survivors include her husband John, four children; Bob (Deb) of Rochester, Ron of Neola, IA, Linda of Oldsmar, FL and Jim (Jie) of Lewiston, a former daughter-in-law Diane Schloegel of St. Charles. 10 grandchildren; Adam, Tiffany, Kristine, Steven, Janel, Scott and Jason. Rita enjoyed her Wednesday's with her three youngest grandchildren, JustineAnne, Barbara and Kate. She is also survived by her 11 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mildred Marg and Lorraine Redig of Winona and a brother, Francis (LaVere) Kallas of Aberdeen, SD. She was preceded in death by an infant brother Jerome, a sister Marie and her parents.A Funeral Mass will be 11 AM Monday, May 5th at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with The Reverend Timothy Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Sunday at Hoff Funeral Service in Lewiston and one hour before services at the church on Monday.
