"Dick" Lombard, 86, of Rushford, Minn. died on Monday, October 26, 2015, at Lake Winona Manor in Winona, Minn.Dick was born on the family farm on January 30, 1929, in Westby, Wis. to Emmett and Margaret (Stinson) Lombard. He was raised in Westby where he attended school. Dick has always been an inventor and even made his own gun when he was 12. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict in Germany where he fixed army tanks. Dick moved to Rushford where he worked for a local mechanic shop. On September 25, 1954, he was united in marriage with Thora Magelssen at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Peterson, Minn. Richard owned and operated his own mechanic shop for over 50 years in Bratsberg, Minn., often helping people for little or nothing. He knew everything about cars and could make any engine run, even if it meant inventing a tool to fix it. Dick enjoyed reading and listening to old time music. He loved to visit with people, even if it took making a random phone call to do it. He also enjoyed gardening, trapping gophers and taking his kids out squirrel hunting. He was a member of Highland Prairie Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday school and played in the men's dart league when he was younger.Dick is survived by his wife, Thora; eight children: Brenda Torgerson of Red Wing, Minn., Rebecca Lombard of Rochester, Minn., Paul (Carol) Lombard of Holmen, Wis., Mona (Ron) Mc Andrew of Kasson, Minn., Pete (Mary) Lombard of Byron, Minn., David Lombard of Rushford, Minn., Patrick (Chris) Lombard of St. Louis, Missouri, and Elizabeth (Tom) Benedum of Houston, Minn.; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters: Ruth (Willard) Greene of Hagar City, Wis., and Dorothy Chambers of Janesville, Wis.He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings. There will be a funeral service for Dick at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2015, at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Peterson, Minn. with the Rev. Marie Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in Rushford, and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
