RUSHFORD, MINN. - Richard L. "Dick" Bains II, 64, of Rushford, Minn. and formerly of Rochester, Minn. died unexpectedly of a heart attack on Saturday, December 13, 2008, at his son's home in Underhill, Wis.Dick was born on December 30, 1943, in Chicago, Ill. To Richard Reiland Bains I and Dawn (Ehlert) Bains. Being the son of a military man, Dick grew up living in many places throughout the United States. His family's summer place at Berry Lake, Wis. is where Dick and his family considered home. He received his Masters Degree in mathematics at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls. On May 4, 1992, he married Roxi Colbenson in Rochester. Dick worked for IBM for nearly forty years, retiring as a Distinguished Engineer. In his spare time Dick enjoyed golfing, skiing, fly fishing, roller-blading, computers, the Green Bay Packers, and most importantly spending time with his family. During his years in Rochester, Dick was active in the youth hockey program there.Dick is survived by his parents, Richard and Dawn Bains; his wife, Roxi; two sons: Richard Reiland Bains II and his wife Annette of Underhill, Wis., and Matthew (Becky) Bains of Deerfield, Wis.; two step-sons: Chad M. Roelofs and Mathew J. Roelofs both of Rochester, Minn.; five grandchildren: Kassandra A. Bains, Richard R. Bains III, Eliana B. Bains, Mara J. Bains, and Lia T. Roelofs; two brothers: Patrick (Andrea) Bains, and Christopher (Debbie) Bains; and two sisters: Leighann Bains and Gretchen Anderson.He was preceded in death by one brother, Brian Bains.The memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, at Hoff Funeral Homes - Rushford Chapel with funeral celebrant Daryl Thompson officiating. Burial will take place in Gillett, Wis. in the Spring.
