Richard Kenneth Shaw, 69, of Chatfield, died Monday, June 25, 2012, at Olmsted Medical Center in Rochester.
Richard was born Nov. 16, 1942, in Albert Lea, to Kenneth and Edith (Comstock) Shaw. He grew up in Spring Valley and graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1960. He then served in the Navy from Sept. 6, 1961, to Sept. 3, 1965, stationed at Great Lakes in Illinois.
Richard lived in Jamestown, N.Y., before returning to Spring Valley in 1976. He moved to Chatfield in 1982. Richard worked as a manager at Crenlo, retiring in 2001.
On May 5, 1962, he married Joyce Sherlock in Waukegan, Ill.; they divorced in 1982. He also married and later divorced Tonia Evans.
Richard loved reading, fishing, watching Jay Leno, sports, and listening to Car Talk with Click and Clack, the Tap It brothers.
He is survived by two sons and two daughters, Michael (Kath) Shaw of Rochester, Tayler Shaw of Chatfield, Patricia Ballinger of Chatfield and Michele (Dale) Marks of Clay Center, Kan.; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren on the way; one brother, Stephen (Nancy) Shaw of Hugo, Minn.; four sisters, Christine (Dean) Dahle of Hayfield, Kathleen (Dennis) Eckard of Kansas City, Mo., Karen Shaw of Spring Valley and Susan (Brad) Davis of Hamilton, Mont.; as well as Joyce Duncan of Chatfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, James.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield, with the Rev. Aaron Wager officiating. Burial will be in Sumner Center/Millet Cemetery in rural Spring Valley, with military honors by Chatfield VFW Post 6913. Visitation hours will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, June 27, at Riley Funeral Home, and one hour before the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
