St. Charles, Richard G. "Dick" Christie, 86 of Rochester and formerly of the St. Charles area died Sunday evening at Sunrise Cottages in Rochester. Dick was born January 10, 1924 in rural St. Charles to Grant and Nellie (Smith) Christie. He grew up on the family farm in Saratoga Township of Winona County and graduated from St. Charles High School in 1942. Following high school he served in the United States Marines, serving as Military Police, stationed at Pearl Harbor, HI and Japan during the occupation. He and Dorothy Munson were married June 26, 1948 at Faith Lutheran Parsonage in Winona. The couple farmed near Clyde before moving in to St. Charles in 1988. In 2005 they moved to Sunrise Cottages in Rochester. Dick was a member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church in Utica. He also belonged to Evergreen Masonic Lodge in Clyde and the St. Charles American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, five children; Carol (Cletus) Bullerman and Connie (John) Ludwig both of Elma, IA, Gary (Diane) Christie of Rochester, Lance (Bonnie) Christie of Utica and Peggy (Tom) Larson of Elba, 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and David and three sisters, Ruth Erickson, Helen Erickson and Grace Christie. Funeral Services will be 11AM Thursday at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service of St. Charles with the Reverend Tim Gerarden of First Presbyterian Church of Utica officiating. Burial will follow in Saratoga Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8PM Wednesday and 10-11 AM Thursday at the funeral home. A Masonic Prayer Service will be at 8PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
